운동을 즐기려는 사람이 많아지는 만큼 운동을 밑천 삼아 직업적으로 운동을 하는 사람들도 많아지는 현재 입니다.

운동을 취미 삼아 하는 것과 그 운동을 직업으로 삼는 것은 큰 차이가 있다고 생각합니다.

예를 들어 헬스트레이너에 대해 이야기해 보면 어떨까 합니다.

헬스트레이너들도 나름 자신의 경력을 위해 몸을 만들고 강도 높은 트레이닝을 하며 자신의 몸을 만들려 하는 경우가 많습니다.

그 과정 속에서 근육의 생성을 위해 단백질 공급을 평소보다 최대한 늘립니다.

근육을 만들겠다고 평소 잘 먹지도 않던 닭가슴살 섭취량을 늘리고 이것도 부족해 보충제까지 추가로 먹습니다.

하지만 때론 강건한 근육질 몸매와 멋지고 강인한 모습의 이면 속에는 고통이 따를 수도 있음을 보여 줍니다.

이렇듯 운동을 직업으로 한다는 것은 요즘 시대가 추구하고자 하는 건강하고 행복한 삶과는 반대되는 결과를 낳을 때도 있습니다.

게다가 요즘 시대는 미디어가 굉장히 발달된 시대이다 보니 운동을 다른 이들에게 과시하고 싶은 수단으로 사용하는 경우도 많습니다.

SNS 상에서만 봐도 자신이 운동으로 가꾼 몸을 사진촬영 또는 동영상 촬영을 하여 올리는 경우도 많습니다.

자기 만족일 수도 있고 그것 또한 삶의 즐거움 일 수도 있습니다.

하지만 우려가 되고 문제가 되는 것은 운동을 하는 사람이 그저 남들에게 보여 주기로 몸을 가꾸고 또는 보다 나은 비주얼을 위해 성형이나 다른 약물들의 힘을 빌려 가면서 까지 사람들의 관심에 집착하는 것 입니다. 

그들도 처음엔 운동이 좋아서 하였고 운동이 주는 긍정적인 영향 때문에 꾸준히 운동을 했을 것 입니다.

하지만 차후 이것을 단순히 돈벌이 수단으로 대하게 되고 더 나아가서는 운동의 범주에서 벗어나 다른 목적을 위한 수단으로 생각하게 돼버린 다면 이에 따른 부작용은 정말로 한도 끝도 없이 자신을 망칠 수 있습니다.

기본적으로 운동은 건강한 육체를 만들기 위한 것임을 망각해서는 안될 것 입니다.

그리고 이 운동을 직업으로 택한 다는 것에 대해 운동을 취미로 했을 때 보다 더 많은 성실과 의무가 따른 다는 것을 잊으면 안 된다는 것 입니다.

직업적인 운동은 본인의 육체까지도 희생시킬 수도 있음을 꼭 잊어서는 안될 것 입니다.

그리고 부디 직업적으로 운동을 하시는 분들께 처음 운동을 시작했던 그 순간을 떠올려 보셨으면 좋겠고 그 때의 마음으로 운동을 꾸준히 임하셨으면 좋겠습니다.

더 나아가 필자는 운동을 다른 목적으로 이용하여 무리하게 본인의 욕심으로 자신의 몸과 마음을 피폐하게 만드는 일이 없었으면 좋겠다는 걱정을 해봅니다.

운동을 취미로 할지 직업으로 선택할 것인지는 역시나 여러분의 선택일 것 입니다.

어떠한 선택을 하든 최소한 운동을 하는 것은 즐거움을 얻기 위해서 이며 정신적으로든 육체적으로든 건강한 삶을 영위하기 위해서 라는 것을 꼭 잊지 말아주시길 바랍니다.
